Parametrization of the Cosmic Muon Flux for the Generator CMSCGEN
نویسندگان
چکیده
The cosmic muon generator CMSCGEN is based on a parametrization of the differential muon flux at ground level, as obtained from the air shower simulation program CORSIKA. We present the underlying ansatz for this parameterization and provide an approximation of the momentum and angular distributions in terms of simple polynomials, in the momentum range 3− 3000GeV.

Atmospheric MUons from PArametric formulas: a fast GEnerator for neutrino telescopes (MUPAGE)
Neutrino telescopes are opening new opportunities in observational high energy astrophysics. In these detectors, atmospheric muons from primary cosmic ray interactions in the atmosphere play an important role. They provide the most abundant source of events for calibration and for testing the reconstruction algorithms. On the other hand, they represent the major background source. The simulatio...
متن کاملCosmic Ray Muon Physics
We present a review of atmospheric and underground muon flux measurements. The relevance of these data for the atmospheric neutrino flux computation is emphasized. Possible sources of systematic errors in the measurements are discussed, focusing on the sea level muon data. Underground muon data are also reported.

Imaging and identifying materials with high atomic numbers and densities, especially radioactive materials, is one of the issues that have been especially considered in recent years. Due to some limitations in conventional and old imaging techniques, finding an alternative method is very important. The cosmic muons with an infinite source are one of the sources that have been recently studied f...
متن کاملSimulation of Cosmic Ray Muon Flux at Shallow Depths Underground
Geant4 has been used to estimate the rate, energy spectrum and angular distribution of cosmic ray muons at underground depths between 300 and 1000 m.w.e. The results agree well with those from the MUSIC program when the same surface spectrum is used. Care has been taken to use a parameterization of the surface spectrum which agrees well with data for the relevant energies. 1 Goals Knowledge of ...
متن کاملAnalytic Forms of Cosmic Ray Spectra Suitable for Muon Tomography
Performance characteristics of different approaches to muon tomography depend critically on the nature of the targets to be imaged and the flux of cosmic ray muons available at the site to be studied. To a reasonable approximation, the zenith angle θ and muon energy or momentum pμ dependences of the flux are similar at all potential tomography sites but the total muon flux does depend on site e...
